St. Catherine’s, Newcastle Upon Tyne

We understand that making the decision to move into a care home is difficult and it is very important to feel confident that you have made the right choice.

Our purpose-built home is set in private grounds with all rooms offering an attractive view of our well maintained gardens. Our rooms are tastefully decorated and all have en-suite facilities. We encourage our residents to bring their own belongings to create a home from home feel.

Regular Mass is held in our tranquil on-site chapel, which is also available for quiet prayer and contemplation.

St Catherine’s is very much a part of the wider community and we often invite local parishioners to join us for coffee and prayer group.

St Catherine’s Nursing Home is rated CQC ‘Good’ with OUTSTANDING care. Our dedicated staff team go the extra mile to ensure all aspects of our residents’ wellbeing are met and our two, full-time activities’ co-ordinators provide a range of stimulating, gentle activities.

We welcome friends and families and our comfortable family room, with its own kitchen area, is available for residents and their visitors to enjoy small celebrations or private time together.

A visiting hairdresser offers weekly appointments in our salon and we provide a variety of complementary therapies to ensure the continued health, happiness and welfare of our residents.

"Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff, they go above and beyond to make sure I’m happy"

Meet our Home Manager

Lesley Oliver
Home Manager

Lesley Oliver is the Home Manager at St Catherine’s having joined St Cuthbert’s Care in 2014.

On completing full-time education Lesley enjoyed a successful career in various management positions, unrelated to the care sector. However, in 2014 she began her journey with St Cuthbert’s Care, as a temporary administrator on a three month contract. Compelled to pursue her growing desire and enthusiasm for working with vulnerable people Lesley immediately demonstrated a genuine caring approach and empathy. St Cuthbert’s Care recognised her natural vocation and offered her the position of Operations Manager, progressing to Deputy Home Manager and then achieving Home Manager in 2021.

“I had never thought about working in the care industry and it took me a number of years to question myself. It is not an easy thing to do, to self-reflect, however, I had gained experience and more importantly I understood myself better. I had the confidence to take a leap of faith and follow my instincts; I am a caring person and put quite simply, I wanted to care for others.

I am proud to be part of the team at St Catherine’s and of the support they provide to every single resident and that is what constantly inspires me. Every day is a new day, as we are dealing with individuals: challenging, happy, sad, rewarding…the emotions are endless but every day we make a difference, a good difference, and that is why I just love it.

I feel so lucky and so privileged to be able to share a smile, conversation or just a quiet moment with one of our residents, becoming a part of their life, is an honour that I never take for granted. Giving them my time, care and attention is a small thing compared to the huge pleasure I have when I see a smile, hear a “Thank you”, or simply knowing that I have helped.

I have a fantastic team behind me at St Catherine’s and what makes it special is that every single member of staff is committed to our residents, striving to make their days happy and positive, enabling them to have a relaxed and enjoyable life.”
