National Day of Reflection

On today’s National Day of Reflection, staff and service users across our charity have chosen their own way to remember the pandemic and all the people who lost their lives.

At our independent supported living service in Kenton, everyone came together to lovingly create a stunning, landmark window made up of individual remembrance messages and words which express how they feel looking back on that time.

Words such as ‘sadness’ and ‘loss’ sit alongside their expressions of joy and hope as they also recall the incredible support, friendship and comfort they shared together.

At our Alan Shearer Centre, members and guests chose to plant sunflower seeds and share their memories over coffee while residents living in our Holy Cross nursing home in Sunderland came together in worship at a special remembrance Mass.

Director of Care, Amanda Head said,

“As people in our services take their first steps towards living life with fewer restrictions, many wanted to share their experience of the pandemic as a way to heal and move on. It has been a very therapeutic and positive exercise.”
