Thanks to our volunteers for making every moment matter

This Volunteer Week, we shine a light on some of our amazing volunteers and say a massive thank you to each and every one.

Every Moment Matters is the theme of this year’s Volunteer Week and the time given by our Holy Cross lunch club volunteers certainly makes the world of difference to the twenty regular guests who attend each week.

Many of the guests are elderly and often feel very isolated and alone, perhaps after losing a life partner or because they can no longer get around without the support of someone else. To have a social event to look forward to is priceless.

“We all get so much out of volunteering at the lunch club,” said Maureen, “and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys helping others.

“We get to share special celebrations and landmark birthdays and love making them extra special – we can really let our creative side run free with table settings and decorations.

“But what really matters is that the guests enjoy it so much. They tell us it’s the highlight of their week and sometimes, that we’re the only people they see and can have a chat with. It gives us an amazing sense of achievement to think we’ve made someone’s day. If you’re thinking about volunteering, our advice is – just go for it!”
