Murphy’s visit is such a tonic

Residents living in our Holy Cross nursing home were over-the-moon when they received a visit from a four-legged friend to mark National Pet Month.

Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Lisa, was more than happy to share her precious pet dog, Murphy, who joined her at work to a chorus of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ from the moment he arrived.

Increasingly, research is showing that stroking pets not only reduces stress, but increases levels of the feel-good hormone oxytocin, so Murphy’s visit was a real tonic to our pet-loving residents.

And Lisa had lots of doggy tales to share of Murphy’s many exploits over the years.

“He’s quite a laid-back dog now,” said Lisa; “unlike his younger days when he would often escape from the garden and refuse to come back!”

Now, it seems he’s happy to lap up all the extra tummy tickles and tasty treats he gets on his visits to our home.
