Because dying matters

Our charity’s two nursing homes are committed to maintaining the best quality of life possible for our residents, but as we mark Dying Matters Week, we recognise the importance of preparing for a good death, too.

Providing exceptional end of life care is a crucial part of this and both homes are currently working towards achieving the nationally recognised Gold Standard Framework for this area of their work.

Each home already has a team of dedicated Champions who actively promote dignity in dying to all of our staff and work closely with residents and families to support them and help them to plan and prepare.

“Talking about death and dying can be very difficult,” said Gill Ennis, Registered Manager of our St Catherine’s and Holy Cross nursing homes. “Establishing a close bond with families and residents from day one, as we do, can break some of the barriers to talking about this sensitive but important topic.

“We’re proud to be working towards Gold Standard accreditation and are committed to working tirelessly to ensure our homes are a place of comfort, compassion and dignity where every resident is valued equally no matter what stage of life’s journey our residents are experiencing.”

If you would like more information about our nursing homes – St Catherine’s in Newcastle or Holy Cross in Sunderland – our Registered Manager, Gill would be happy to help or arrange a tour of our homes. Please contact Gill on 0191 228 8800 or email gill.ennis@stcuthbertscare.org.uk
