A beautiful moment

We’ve been so looking forward to this day, welcoming our eager volunteers back into our nursing homes following the pandemic. This picture is of our new volunteer, Ella-Rae, a keen and local sixth-form student, chatting with our resident, Jim. They are both talking politics as Ella-Rae is considering reading politics and history at uni.

Ella-Rae, daughter of our charity’s Director of Care and clearly blessed with the same drive, enthusiasm and compassion for people, said, “I’m getting something you don’t get from schoolbooks. Real first-hand stories from people who have experienced many different political systems.”

Yes, Ella-Rae is here to help at our nursing home and to learn about our work. But she is also learning from our residents who have all led fabulously interesting, and diverse lives. Every person is an encyclopaedia of personal experiences. When you open up a conversation with someone, as Ella-Rae has discovered, you never quite know what you might learn!
